- Assistant Director and Director of Adult Day Program -

BASIC FUNCTION
The Assistant Director supports the Executive Director in the overall daily management and operations and provides direct oversight for the adult day services. This role assists with staff supervision, participant services, compliance monitoring, and program coordination to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care. The Assistant Director serves as a key operational leader and may assume delegated responsibilities in the Executive Director’s absence. The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Virginia licensure and certification requirements; overseeing program development and implementation; and hiring, supervising, disciplining, and, when necessary, dismissing personnel within the adult day program. Coordinating community outreach, marketing, and fundraising for the adult day program.

Education & Experience
-
Baccalaureate degree in human services, health care administration, social work, gerontology, education or a related field with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with older adults or persons with disabilities OR
-
Current licensure as a nursing home administrator or assisted living facility administrator from the Board of Long-Term Care Administrators OR
-
Current licensure in Virginia as a registered nurse. The requirement for two years of experience working with older adults or persons with disabilities also must be met.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in the administration and management of the adult day program, including (i) knowledge and understanding of the population being served by the center, (ii) supervisory and interpersonal skills, (iii) ability to plan and implement the program, and (iv) knowledge of financial management sufficient to ensure program development and continuity.

Preference for a candidate who is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional or is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional, or is an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, or has an associate’s degree in a discipline focusing on the provision of activities for adults, or has one year full-time work experience within the last five years in an activities program in an adult care setting.

Proven ability to supervise a diverse staff while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and multigenerational community environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
All duties must be performed in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing licensure, safety, and service delivery.

Directly oversees daily operations of the adult day program. Ensures qualifications are maintained to oversee this program.

Ensures compliance with Virginia regulatory requirements for adult day services.
-
Ensures compliance with Medicaid and Veterans Administration regulations as applicable to program participant’s payment sources.
-
Designs and implements the content of the program offered to participants in care.
-
Manages and supervises staff within the adult day program including ensuring assignment of sufficient qualified staff to meet participant needs for adequate nutrition, health supervision and maintenance, personal care, socialization, recreation, activities and stimulation, and supervision, safety, and protection.

Conduct or supervise participant intake, assessments, documentation, and service planning.

Helps monitor program quality, participant satisfaction, and service delivery outcomes.

Develops, updates, and oversees implementation of organizational policies and procedures.

Communicates effectively with participants, families, caregivers, and team members.

Selects, orients, supervises, and evaluates designated staff within the adult day program.

Oversees daily operations to ensure achievement of financial, programmatic, and customer service goals.

Evaluates program effectiveness and provides regular performance reports and outcome data to the Executive Director.

Collaborates with community organizations and partners to advance the Center’s mission and support community health initiatives with focus on the adult day program.

Designs and implements marketing, outreach, and fundraising strategies to support the Center’s long-term sustainability with a focus on the adult day program.

Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging trends in adult day services.

Ensures exceptional customer service by developing, implementing, and monitoring service standards; models courtesy, compassion, and respect in all interactions.

Maintains strict confidentiality of participant, staff, and organizational information in compliance with applicable laws and policies.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
