Our Future

The Vision of Generations Crossing

A multigenerational care center with children keeping the minds and hearts of the older adults young, and adults sharing the time, attention, and hugs all children need to thrive.

Site Plan

The site plan (picture) features a 10,000 square foot building designed to meet all licensure regulations for adult and child daycare and maximize interaction between age groups.  Specifically, the new site will make available:

  • Space for up to 24 full-time adult daycare participants (or up to 60 part-time participants);
  • Space for up to 61 children (7 infants, 9 toddlers, 12 young pre-school, 18 older pre-school, and 15 after school);
  • Separate space for adults and children as well as shared space for joint activities;
  • Expanded indoor programs for adults, including computers, piano, exercise space with equipment, game room with billiards, kitchen area for cooking projects, gardening and craft area, quiet area with recliners, bathing and grooming area, and a clinic;
  • Expanded outdoor space for adults and children;
  • Office space for administrative and program staff

“Building for the Ages”

Generations Crossing has been an unqualified success. The current facility is operating at capacity and there is a critical need for more space and services.  Generations Crossing has now reached an exciting and critical time in its short history.  Having established a quality adult daycare program, secured United Way funding, and maintained a stable financial status, the Board of Directors is ready to build a permanent facility that allows for both adult and child daycare in an intergenerational daycare center.  The opportunity has risen to locate Generations Crossing on Taylor Springs Road, adjacent to Sunnyside Community.

Locating such a dual-purpose facility near a retirement community and close to growing residential neighborhoods is ideal for the new center.  With the land now available and thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Virginia Department for the Aging, Generations Crossing is expanding its mission. The vision for Generations Crossing can become a reality as the community embraces and contributes to this project!

Childcare Program

The childcare program will be licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Licensing, and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  The curriculum for the childcare center will be designed by local professionals in the field of early childhood education and will build on a developmental model of care, offering an age appropriate environment as well as age appropriate activities.

Goals for the childcare program are to:

  • Enable children to meet the tasks and needs of each developmental stage;
  • Foster initiative, curiosity, resourcefulness, and self-confidence through active learning experiences, including intergenerational interactions;
  • Provide for the health of children through a sage and nurturing environment;
  • Provide support, respite, and education for parents and caregivers
